Folks,
I picked up a very clean BC-474 with its case at the Charlotte hamfest
today. The interesting thing about it is that it's the early, 2 panel model
(the receiver and transmitter sections are 2 separate units in the case,
just like the original aircraft versions of the radio). The case is
identical to the later, single-panel unit case and the fastening screws also
are in the same places as on the single-panel unit.
The strange thing is the nomenclature on it: the label is the standard
Signal Corps label, but the type number on it is not BC-474, but MI-8751.
The contract is 3022-NY-41, serial number 37. Of course it's manufactured by
RCA (I don't even think the BC-474 had other contractors).
Does anyone know what this model number is? Is it a prototype run? AFAIK if
it was for the Swedish contract it wouldn't have the US Signal Corps label
on it.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
