On the subject of TCS cables, just how are they constructed.

I have one where either the wires have stretched or the outer armour has
shrunk, there is now 8 inch of unprotected wire between plug and start of outer
sheath.

So, I can obviously open up the plug and pull the exposed wire through until
the armour is against the cable entry of the plug, though how does one
secure it to the plug. I'm thinking the outer ring must be crimped onto the armour
but that still means there is just a short length of wire that can be
available then to resolder to the plug pins, too much and the pin block will not
push back into the shell.

I'm assuming there must be some trick or knack to this? anyone know what it
is?
