Perhaps, for example, Command Sets would not be collectible, but would be
common as cockroaches, if the supply had not been thinned out.
Back then, to build an SSB rig out of leftover Command Sets was really something.
Probably it would have been better if a few more, for example, SCR-240's, RAT's,
and BC-721s had been preserved, but with a market system working by the rules
of demand-supply, the process was about as precise as it could get.
For the "pedestrian mobile" rigs, i'm not convinced ex-mil gear is the way to go, except
as Mike suggests, you want to replicate the original type experience. For just plain
mobile-pedestrian SSB on the hambands, for about the same money, available ham
radios do a better job, altho you have to rig your own backpack and antenna setup.
