Morgan mentions in his book "Aircraft Radio and Electrical Equipment"
(my copy is 1941) that 140 to 143mc was going to be used for company
communications. Airport traffic control was going to be around 130
mc and range operations would be around 120 mc.

This is backed up by Sandretto in his book (1942) Both books
indicate that "Ultra High Frequency Equipment" was going to
be installed on a wide scale starting in 1942. The war obviously changed
that, at least for the civilians.

The only specific frequency mentioned in Sandretto's book
is 140.1 which was to be used for interplane communications,
and even though not mentioned by name, he goes on to describe a radio
that fits the WE233 to a tee.

I don't know who came up with the plan, but the military used
a channel plan based on crystals with a 10kc spacing, 7000,7010, 7020,
etc, which gave channels spaced at 180kc and frequencies like 126.18 and
140.58.

Well after the war, the channel plan was changed to 100kc spacing,
118.7, 118.8 etc.

Even though the 4 frequencies usually associated with the
AN/ARC-4 (WE-233) are all between 140 and 144, there are some factory
made WE-703 crystal units made for 144.36. Just wonder if anyone knows
what that channel was used for?
