The BC-610 started out as the Hallicrafters HT-4 transmitter in 1938.
As the US entered into WW2, the civilian HT-4 was contracted and
adapted for mass production for the US Army with the military
nomenclature BC-610. Later versions had some mechanical differences
from the older version, for an even more efficient manufacturing
process and field service.
