And i have wondered how on flattops, the transmitters were set up before
a flight. Let's say, a patrol plane going out. You cannot tune up the transmitter
below the flight deck. You do not want to tune it up on the deck, because radio
silence rules. So how? The deck crew brings out the LM portable in its metal
case, on the cart, and tunes up the receivers? Then tunes up the vfo of the
transmitter only? The rest of the transmitter settings being "by the book"?
Then in flight, if contact is made, the radioman completes the tuneup when
readying his contact report? To clarify in this example, the plane is an SBD,
"Speedy D", with no LM onboard.
I should have asked when i had the opportunity, darn it!
