[Milsurplus] Free large WW II transmitter - Not

The credit is not mine - at first glance at the Craigslist photos I thought
that it was the WW2 Federal Telegraph and Radio FT-102 console with the
Mackay 167-BY HF and 150-BY MF transmitter, with the 128-AY LF/MF and the
RMCA AR-8506 MF/HF receivers. Jerry Proc, VE3FAB identified it and sent the
link to his photo of the Mackay MRU 19/20.
The Mackay 3007 looks to me very similar to the RMCA AR-8506 and I have the
128-AY.
In fact, right now I have the RMCA AR-8506B sitting on the 40 M CW band (the
band is hopping!) as I'm wiring the new homebrew power supply into the old
FT-102/167-BY (I don't have the MF section), so I can check in with it to
tonight's Old Military Radio Net on 3570.

Nice work, Meir: you nailed it. I have the 3007 receiver, but
didn't see it in the seller's photo. This is basically a wartime
Mackay receiver with an added 70 kcs selective IF, but no
better bandspread than the original. I am sure the 3001 LF-
MF receiver is still just the same as the wartime Mackay
regen.
One wonders how such an equipment, which at one time must
have been very costly, ended up being totally forgotten. Maybe
a ship contract was cancelled? Ah - i just recalled in my own
industry, how difficult it is to send excess equipment back up
the pipeline - there's no provision for that! -Hue Miller
