I sold one of those filters at the MRCG meet either last year or the
year before.By the looks of it ,it appeared to be an add on external to
the TBS.

Subject: [Milsurplus] More TBS Information

Hi,

John Forster asked if the Low Pass Filter for the TBS was a later add
on. I'm
not sure, but it does not show in my Preliminary Instruction Book for
TBS-6 of
1943.

On its use post war, here is a note from Bill Henneberry CWO, " In 1951
and 1952
I was the squadron Chief ET for Mine Squadron Six, which consisted of
six
converted destroyers. All still used the TBS. When I went to the
Strickland, a
radar picket ship in the North Atlantic in 1956, we had the TDZ RDZ."

Study of the manual shows that the modulation limiter starts kicking in
at 75
percent modulation, rectifying modulator output and feeding increased
bias to
the speech amplifier with a long time constant such that at 10dB above
the level
needed for 75 percent modulation, the modulation is 95 percent.
