Your assumption that TBS sets were not used after WW2 has to be correct
as 60-80 MHz became the lower tier VHF TV channels (2 thru 5).
Conversion to 6M (50.4) is the only practical way to use them now, and
even some ship memorial stations have done this (USS Massachusetts BB-59).
As for efficient operation, they do a nice job on 6M. Should be no more
objectionable than the typical Gonset or other ham type gear.
