1943: "GF-11 / RU-16 INSTALLATION IN 75MM SELF-
PROPELLED GUN MOUNT HALF TRACK"

Mounted between driver and co-driver seat. No pix but
sounds like a box, with door access to radio controls,
receiver and transmitter control boxes. Antenna base
is MP-37 installed on mast base support bolded to top
of the beam above right hand door of the vehicle.
Shift control level must be bent forward 3 inches to allow
room for shifting into reverse. Extension control box mounted
on wall behind driver, near driver's side gunner seat.
Antenna is MP-49, MP-50, MP-51, MP-53. 8 receiver coils
and 4 transmitter coils provided.

Why did they choose this radio? Maybe they had an excess of
them, as more 274N / ARA-ATA equipment was going into
aircraft. The gear did have a wide frequency range was was
fairly robust, at least more robust than a lot of other aircraft
equipment. HF use would let you listen to warning networks
and talk to gun spotter planes. -Hue Miller
