Just had an interesting read about US Navy communications of about 100
years ago. The book was called:
"Manual of Wireless Telegraphy (radio) for the use of Naval
Electricians". It was printed by the US Navy at Annapolis in 1913.
They sure used some pretty crude stuff back then.
I sure hope times have changed for the Navy because at the end of the
book one of the appendices covers resuscitation from electric shock.
I quote two of the "rules":
"Forcible stretching of the sphincter muscle controlling the lower
bowel excites powerful reflex actions and stimulates a gasp
(inspiration) frequently when other measures have failed. For this
purpose, the subject should be turned on the side, the middle and index
fingers inserted into the rectum and the muscle suddenly and forcibly
drawn backward toward the spine."
"The tongue is seized and drawn out quickly and forcibly to the
limit then it is permitted to recede. This is to be repeated 16 times
per minute"
I think nowadays this is probably against the Geneva Convention :)
