Could be.  I don't have a diagram and didn't trace out the stage.
The tube was good.  The bypasses around it were bad.
Just my "best guess" as to what toasted the coil.
Luckily, the open was right at the inside of the winding,
and the coil itself had "cooked loose" from the form.
I was able to fish out a turn, glue the winding back in place 
and reconnect.  The burned insulation still works,
as the radio aligned OK.
