  I'm Tracing the use of 60mtrs & some of these old xtal control military & Para-Military radios. These are the ones I have. What's in you collection, what freqs were they originally on, & who was using them?

  4627.0 & 4630.0kc, I suspect marine freqs, these are in my PRC-108, a backpack set made for the Coast Guard. It is actually the commercial Sunair PRC-20/6 which is an artfully repackaged ASB-20, or -50..

  4950.0kc, This one is in a Motorola SA-104 which is a pre-Micom HF/SSB transceiver of medium power intended for mobile & fixed station use. It was the property of the Missouri Army National Guard & also contained, 4001.5, 7358.5, & 8168.5 kc.

  5015.0kc, This freq was in a Harris RF-SB-6M as supplied from the factory. Though a 6 channel radio the only other freq factory installed was 2204kc. I believe this radio had been is service with Army Corps of Engineers.

  5167.5kc, was/is the Alaska emergency freq. I have a Stoner PMC-12 ca1972 para-military backpack ssb rig that came with that in it as well as 4791.5kc, 7368.5kc, & 8000.7kc. I have pictures of this radio up on Milpack.

  5242.5kc, I have a Motorola SA-211(SA-200 family), also a para-military backpack ssb rig that came from the federal government with this freq in it. It is stenciled ANCSA(Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act). I had an identical radio that came from the same source, & same batch, that was branded CAI CA-32. I once found the frequency listed as affiliated with a reservation tribal authority(police) but I can't remember where I saw it.

  5397.5kc & 4927.5kc, Was supplied in a Galaxy SSB Comm-1A. These radios are low-medium power, Para-military in type, OD in color(some may have been haze gray), & intended for simi-portable, mobile & fixed station use. Many were acquired for, & most show signs of use, by the various MARS agencies. The Galaxy Comm-2 is a backpack portable version. This is the same Galaxy company as the Ham radio one & these radios do show a family resemblance..

  5410kc, This freq is in an RCA SSB-1, about the size of a small refrigerator, it came from service with the Oklahoma St Civil Defence. Other freqs in this radio were 4747kc, 9295kc, 12938.1kc. The Navy used a few of these & I think just about every State in the union had some for CD.

  If you have one of the older commercial/military xtal control radios & can confirm what frequencies they originally had in them, or even who their original owner was please let me know. I realize that some are no longer on their original freqs but many had channel labels on them both front & rear panel that may still be legible.
