G'day all and Happy Xmas.

Meir,

I usually drill two 1/16" in the bottom of the cans first - in opposite
corners.

Then stand them over a tray with one hole at the very bottom to let the oil
out while the other lets the atmosphere in. Dispose of the oil
appropriately.

That gets rid of most of the oil before attempting to desolder. The holes
can be sealed with solder if you want to seal them completely again.
