[Milsurplus] Opinions regarding restoring bathtub capacitors

Recently recapped my AR-88 which originally used a multitude of bathtub units, many of which were mounted several inches away from their associated circuits.  Used modern replacements mostly mounted directly on the tube sockets resulting in MUCH shorter lead lengths than original.  Collected no before/after operational measurements but believe this has to be of some benefit.
