[Milsurplus] Ham Radio hospitality long dead

Well, could not believe my eyes tonight upon opening a message.
Thinking of a few days away I looked to see if a ham club would be near the
/p location. Found one, and emailed them with what I thought was quite a
polite message, "Will be in the area on one of your meeting nights, would there be
anything on that night?". I added the usual salutation and name.
Now I thought, rather stupidly as it turns out, that I might get something
like "Yes, its so and so talking about this or that", or even "No, nothing
planned just a natter night" and I certainly expected something like "but do
come along, we're a friendly club and would love to have you as a visitor, bring
the wife, have a cuppa or (if meeting in a pub) have a drink and a chat".
What I did get was "Sorry, no". That's it, nothing else, not even a name
attached to the reply. Indeed, I had to re-read the message I sent for fear I
had somehow been rude or such.
Bring newcomers into the hobby ? That's a laugh. With helpful little
messages like that I'm amazed the hobby is still around.
Guess its nights in the pub at the /p then, lets hope its not the pub where
they meet!.
