> In comment to another comment, the SCR-245 wasn't an unpopular set in North
Africa and Italy. Although the Signal people probably preferred the SCR-193,
indications are they'd rather have either one in preference to the SCR-506.
First, both '193 & '245 as mobile radios were real, real old-fashioned
compared to '506. However I don't think '506 leaked to field in time for
7/42.
But Russ AE4NY ran a BC191 as hi-speed inter-airbase cw op. He had seen
191s running mobile ('193) but had never seen a '245. So it wasn't
unpopular, it wasn't there.
Russ moved on to Italy & his SCR-188 (w. BC-224 rather than BC-312!) got
sacked in favor of bread truck (SCR-299).
I'll stick w. "probably & indications" that 245, as limited std.,
never left stateside radio schools... even tho it had new-fangled
xtal ctl along w. jurrassic park mcw buzzer ckt.
