There is nothing I can say
that could possibly ease
your anxiety or your grief.
Words fail.
I have four daughters;
The thought of losing one....
Words fail that, too.
In the end, we must take heart from this:
Either God is in his Heaven,
loves and knows what's best for us,
or he is not.
Either we have an eternal soul
and you will be with her forever in some fashion,
or not.
If he is there, and we do,
then prayer and trust are our sure refuge.
If not, the darkness will come,
and bring the ultimate peace of oblivion.
Either means an end to pain and grief.
But don't fear that it will be darkness;
Life has convinced me
that God is in his Heaven,
that he does know what's best for us,
and that we can trust Him.
The dark cloud may yet pass by; but if not,
remember this life is but a flickering
of the eye that looks out on eternity.
Separations will pass,
and you and those you love
will continue your part
in God's work of creation.
