Current edition of ER magazine has article by Roger Basford
G3VKM on his experience buying an NIB SCR-543/ BC-669
from France. Pictured is the ad from the surplus seller and it
appears the seller started with 300 !! units. I also looked at
websites referred to in the article and one
http://f6bir.pagesperso-orange.fr/nostalgie.html
has quite a few pages of surplus-ads from France magazines.
It kinda amazes me to see this, particularly as- i'm pretty sure -
these magazine ads are from decades after the big war-surplus
boom in the USA. ( Not that there's a great variety like ours was-
no ARR-2, BC-645, and RAY-1 for the France ham to try to reckon
a use for - the offering is more the canonical surplus gear - BC-348,
312, SP-600, etc.
I was quite surprised also to see offered (past tense) components of
the Luftwaffe FuG-10 setup. I wonder if France used these postwar.
But the 300 BC-669, new crated: WHERE were they hiding ??!!??!!
I am thinking i maybe need to add some study of the French language
to my goals. I was already aware that the country has some fabulous
examples of the castle, and has more open space than many of its
European neighbors - which piqued my interest a lot. -Hue Miller
