[Milsurplus] PRC-74 questions

While looking at my 74 prior to a quick tweak of the rf section etc I  
noticed that the rf band switch is activated incorrectly but, the set still  seems 
to tune. 
 
The rf deck should go from band 1 to 2 when the Mhz knob goes from 2 to 3  
(according to TM). On this one it does that at 3 to 4, and each successive  
upchange is 1 click later than it should be. 
 
However, the set seems to tune up ok, the range 1 tuned circuits will peak  
on 80Mtrs although the book states 2.000 to 2.999 and I'm getting 15W out on  
80.
 
So, anyone come across this before ? was it a mod or is it just this set  has 
been messed with and someone has set the link incorrectly. 
 
I was going to reset it but I don't have a short shank Allan key I can get  
into the space. If anyone has one of these, I'll buy it or borrow if I  can.
 
I also added some C across the keying oscillator coil to reduce the keying  
note, it seemed a bit high for amateur use.
