I have an issue of Digest of Airborne Radio and Radar News dated
December 10, 1944 that has two articles relating to the AN/ARC-1.
The first article describes a servicing rack built by
CASU-1 and a slightly different version built by CASU-31
And what does CASU stand for?
The second article describes mandated rework
of early AN/ARC-1 sets by BuAer, due to "lack of
proper inspection at points of manufacture."
It looks like all the CW sets from S/N 150 to
4000, and CAY sets from 7900 to 10000 were to
be returned for rework.
So it looks like the set was well along in service
by the beginning of 1945.
Other articles of interest:
A blurb about band switching motors for the
AN/ARC-5 being shipped without lubrication, but
no other details. So I'm not sure if this refers to
to the VHF receiver or the C-131 control.
An article about carrier landings causing
detuning of the AN/ARR-2.
The description of a new control unit for
AN/ARC-5 VHF, the replacement of the C-30 by
the C-30A.
It's an interesting publication, wish I had
other issues.
