Usually it's Black and Silver. The idea is to get a null useing the loop
and the sense antenna combined. Then listen for the deeper null That is
your relative bearing.Or do I have it backwards?I have never flown as a
radio navigator so I am only going on what I may have missinturpreted
from what I have read and fooling around with the DU-2 and ARB setup I
have here.
BTW you can replace the output connector with a SO-259 without any
carving but for two small mounting holes. You can then replace the
original when you decide to donate to a museum or restoration project
and the holes dissappear when done..
I also have a post war Marine Service (read fishing boats) conversion
of the DU-*.It is mounted in a box with more knobs and a meter on the
side.I have yet to delve into this one but it may be a nice add on to
my father's old Appelco 150 watt Marine Band transceiver. From what I
have heard, these old Marine Band sets can tune 160 and 80
meters.Crystal controlled unless you add in the hacked ARC-5 VFO you
got at the last hamfest in 1968!

Mike,
Thanks for that schematic posting. I have some DU-1 bits to play with
and that will help. Do you have the manual nomenclature handy?

The loop I have is painted half black, half gold. Anyone know the
significance of the color scheme? Seems an odd choice for that
vintage gear.

anything except a list of the components of the set and that some of
the
components carry the same Navy Type Number as the DW (but built by
different
contractor). Does anyone have a manual on either set (any number
model)?
