[Milsurplus] ARC-5 Conversion

It would be a shame to carve up a nice transmitter to make a VFO when
a partially "converted" unit would work as well. The usual VFO
conversion involved cutting the chassis about in half and discarding
all of the rear end components. But it's up to you as the owner. In
the ultimate the fewer intact units there are, the more mine will be
worth when I die and my son either takes my collection or sells it.
It would be impossible to make a T-22 into a Q-Fiver. That's what
people did with BC-453 and R-23/ARC-5 receivers since they tune
190-550KHz, and so cover the typical IF of 455KHz. That use really
does not require any changes to the receiver other than to supply
power to it via a suitable adapter plug although the usual way was to
butcher the rear of the receiver chassis and put in an AC power
supply. There's also an ARA model that tunes the same range; it's
designation escapes me at the moment.
