Tom, one of the most interesting hands on display to catch the imagination
of visitors and demonstrate Morse code was a display I saw recently at
the New Jersey Antique Radio Club located at InfoAge in Belmar, New
Jersey. The club had set up a BC-348 receiver and antenna and allowed
visitors to use the receiver to tune in low frequency radio beacons. The
visitor would write down the dots and dashes heard from each beacon and
then "decipher" the code using an available code character list. The low
frequency beacons repeat their identification continuously and it is fairly
easy to get a complete copy of the dot and dash characters . Then they
would look up the identifier in a "location" book to come up with a location
of the beacon and look at its location on a chart.

Do any of you have ideas on how I
| might involve the kids in "hands-on" interactive displays? | expected in
this world of computers and cellphones. Can you offer| suggestions on other
things I might do to spark their interest?
|
| Thanks for your help!
