They run on DC, but in case anyone is
interested, I saw a few operating in a
Navy transmitter site on Kwajlein in
1950.  Navy had "rotary converters" I
guess they were called, 220 VAC input,
220 volts DC output for the transmitters.
These generators were noisy in that metal
Quonset Hut.  And, Navy tubes were better
designed to withstand physical shock. Also,
this series of transmitters had indents on
the tuning dials that could be set to help
with quicker QSY.
