There is a GP-3 up here in this part of the country. It
is a little smaller than the -7, and uses rare WE tubes,
the type 212, with 2 caps, one on top and one coming
at an angle off the side. How would you like to have to
retube that thing?
I would not be surprised to learn that Robert Downs is
right about early models being scrapped out. The TCH
i have, escaped from the Navy when the TCS came in
and replaced the TCH, and the TCHs (up here anyway)
were taken apart by Navy radio students for some kind
of learning experience. Big learning experience, no doubt.
But this one Navy fellow managed to snag one and keep it.
The GP came from a ham estate on an island with a
NAS ( Naval Air Station. ) Perhaps it got out the door in
a similar manner. -Hue Miller
