Some name plates are MetalPhoto or something similar. They are NOT
painted.  Google has lots of hits, although it is possible the process
now in use may differ from the WW II version. If you are utterly
determined, a NaOH or KOH solution in warm water might strip it, but
will also eat aluminum.
