[Milsurplus] Battleship Cove and History

This has been an interesting thread that has twisted and turned in many
directions so I decided to add my 2 cents worth to the fray.

I volunteer my time as a guide at "The Diefenbunker, Canada's Cold War
Museum", a 4-story, 100,000 sqft, underground facility near Ottawa
Canada. There is a point in the 2-hour tour where I have the opportunity
to point out that there is no glory in war and the reason for the museum
is to remind people where we've been in the hopes that we don't go there
again. As the old saying goes, "those who forget history are doomed to
repeat it." I found a saying that I like even better; "the price of
history is higher the second around." I usually single out some young
person on the tour and make the point that they may well be one of the
leaders of tomorrow and if they remember where we've been then they may
well help us avoid going there again.

And just to inject an element of radio into the thread, we have both the
Emergency Radio Room and the Emergency Transmitter Room, which were
stripped empty, equipped with as much proper equipment as we could find
and return to the building. What isn't from the building is from the times.

Come see it someday.
