I'd not consider that to be a price you can expect to find again
reliably, Mike. That's more in line with the good deals that hamfests
are famous for as opposed to ebay.
Like you, I got hooked on this receiver from seeing a friend's set up
in his garage. Thought it was the perfect garage radio and had to find
one. It took a year or so, but one turned up on ebay over in NH.
Opening bid was $199, no one bid. I was out in Washington state when
the auction ended, so I contacted the fellow and got together upon my
return. Long story short, I ended up getting a very nice Zenith
receiver, supply, and case with shock mount - along with antenna
sections and a spares kit from Emerson for $150 and some travel time.
Found a like-new Zenith contract canvas cover on ebay for $25, no luck
so far with the accessories or bag for them.
This was in 2003, mind you. If that same set came up today, chances
are it would bring $300-$400 or more at auction. I've seen clean
examples bring over $500 there. So, a good deal vs. what you're okay
with spending on it might be two different things. I discovered that
embracing the latter works best in the long run.
Good luck in your search, there are plenty of these rigs out there.
