The inevitable conclusion is that films are made for the mases, not
for the minute fraction of radio geeks watching to verify accuracy.
Props are there to sell the scene to the folks, and work quite well
for that, considering most folks view radios as appliances along the
lines of the toaster oven and so on. Knobs, dials, keys, speakers?
Yep, must be a radio set up.

That said, many movies in the recent past have done a much better job
with this, not unlike museums finally adding radio gear to their
aircraft.
