[Milsurplus] power supply for KWM-2A

Congrats on the potential to get one really nice SSB radio, the KWM2. Good
luck with the ham ticket!

I've done the hp23 conversion before I had a 'real' Collins PS. It worked
just fine.

As I remember (been a long time), you just have to find two octal type round
plugs. One 11 pin for the HP23 and the other 11 pin for mating to the
Collins kwm2. They are not hard to find. If I remember right you had to
insert in series one power resistor on one of the power leads. From there it
was just wiring one plug to the other. There were several versions of the
heathkit power supply: hp23, hp23a, hp23b. I think there might have been one
model preferred over the others for the Collins conversion. The HP23
supplies show up all the time on ebay or at hamfest. The going price is +/-
$50 for the Heathkit versus $200+ for the Collins.

For the Collins KWM2 PS, you have the desk top unit 516F-2 (normally
installed in the speaker cabinet) or a portable power supply PM2 that bolted
to the back of the radio. A 12 VDC PS was also available.

Here is one link that adds a regulator for better performance with the kwm2,
but I didn't find it necessary.

Subject: [Milsurplus] power supply for KWM-2A

I don't have my General license yet, and my Elmer has given me the
incentive: if you get your General Class, I have an extra Collins KWM-2A
sitting around I'll give you as a present. Great! Catch is: no power
supply. Are the power supplies for these rigs available anywhere for a
decent price? The ones I see on eBay are either beat up pretty bad,
untested (read: old dried up caps and burned out tubes), or too high a
price.

Second question: is there a schematic online of the power supply needed for
this rig? I can wire one up myself if need be, especially since I would use
modern components that would perform better than original. Thanks for any
info you guys can provide.
