Dave beat me to the punch here, but i was also thinking of posting here
that yes, the dealer really does fill a role in the market. Absolutely; most
people do not have the knowledge or inclination or simple energy to sell
of a collection piece by piece, so the reseller provides a service.
The key is an INFORMED market. The seller should have some idea of the
size of the market and a rough idea of the demand for the item. With
that info, the seller can make the right decision for them, on how much
to discount the items to the seller versus the hassles this deal would save
them. The widow-robbers work by dealing in the darkness of information
blackout.
Maybe all the hobby organizations, clubs, magazines and so on, should
really periodically harp on this, i mean being prepared. Periodically, so the
awareness gradually sinks in. Preparedness is being a good Boy Scout, besides,
and it's patriotic, one might say.
Doggone, i just might feel pushed to get organized myself. I have
certainly witnessed enuff chaotic estate sales. -Hue
