[Milsurplus] The End of International Trade for Individuals?

Unfortunately this is not a problem that is unique to the States. Australia
abandoned their Economy Air service a few years ago. Up to that point I used
to buy a lot of paper and electronics from Australia. Even got a real nice
HF military WWII transmitter/receiver that probably weighs about 60 pounds.
No more. A mere few pounds makes it economically unreasonable to buy an item
as shipping will cost several times the item's value. Same thing with the
UK. Used to be able to get some pretty heavy stuff at reasonable shipping
charges. Again, no more. I just bought an item from the UK for $50 which
weighs less than 2 pounds yet it cost me $100 to have it shipped. The seller
was a ham and assured me he was charging me exact shipping costs. So, it
seems it is a worldwide problem affecting everyone. If anything the US mail
services lagged behind until they had no choice but to conform. - Mike
