Gents:
For another view on the AC vs DC battles in the late 19th century, look up some sources on the creation of the electric chair. Edison wanted in the worst way for AC to be selected as the preferred source for this technology so he could advertise heavily regarding its lethality. And Westinghouse refused to sell a generator for this purpose to the New York Department of Corrections so the state had to import one from Brazil.
Even the name for the process of death by electricity had to be created; earlier the process had been called electricide before the term electrocution was finally selected.

Hi John:
>>>>>
George Westinghouse was selling an A.C. based street lighting system in
competition with Edison's DC system. It was much more efficient because of the
use of transformers. A.C. generators are easier to make than DC generators.
The bit that Tesla provided was the A.C. motor. But he also invented many
improvements to all of the electrical system. For a short list of his patents
see my Electro-magnetic Toy Engine web page (check out the videos of the toy
motor running) at: http://www.prc68.com/I/EM_ToyEngine.shtml
