Agreed, there is always the gadget and the trinket factor, whatever you want
to call it. Finding the parts for everything is half the fun, but your
wallet might be a lot lighter.

Since my post on the GRR-5, I have witnessed two sell on eBay, one went for
$235 (but was on the left coast, so shipping from there to VA would have
been killer), the other went for near $400. Ouch! I might shell out $200
for one, but it would have to be at a hamfest, not eBay. I want to start
the thing up and try it out, see if the vibrators all work, etc. The
gadgets aren't too much of a problem for that set - the antenna pieces are
common, as is the headset, manuals, and spares boxes. The cables will be
fun finding the originals, but life can't always be easy.

Other sets I am gathering up parts for include:

PRC-47
TRC-77
TRC-75/ARC-58
GRC-213
PRC-104
GRC-193A
GRC-206
R-1051
GRC-106
PRC-1099

Needless to say, I have some scrounging to do. :)

a.k.a. the 'Trinket Factor', for all of the wee trinkets,
odds-n-ends, and other sometimes useless items needed for the
'Completeness Factor'. A bit more difficult to apply this term to the
adventures of the YL/XYL as they tend to take offense to the reference
to trinkets as being cheap somehow. We all know better!

The gadgetry of the GRR-5 counter-rotating dial, presets, multiple
power options and so on is truly amazing for such an odd piece of
gear. The multi-section whip doesn't hurt the cause either. A glance
at the manual reveals a rather large assortment of
accessories/trinkets from power adapter cable to battery bag to
accessory bag and all of those things you know "need" to complete the
set up. Sheesh. (o:
