John, i have also owned a set of RU coil holders mounted ladder
fashion to a pair of aluminum L channels. At first i thought this was
a PBY setup, but then i went to thinking it was maybe just hambrew.
There is a not-rare photo that appears in a couple numbers of Radio
News of a PBY installation in which can be seen a column of RU
coil holders against the airframe, but i don't recall at the moment if
any detail is visible of the actual mounting technique. At the moment
i am again undecided if the "coil holder ladder" i had, was actually
removed from an aircraft or was homemade.

BTW, Pete Peterson W7?? of Seattle told me he was radio operator
on ferry flights post-WW2 delivering PBYs the US donated to the
Phillipine military. He said the original GO-9 / RU equipment was on.
He described the RU as a "good CW receiver" and the GO-9 as an
effective transmitter but a lot of work to tune up when changing
frequencies for the position reports.
