i am posting this question here just in case this equipment is milradio
related.
i purchased a large box of these military equipment slings; these are
probably later era items due to the hooks on the end, they are adustable
in length from about 39" to about 60"; took a while to realize i had two
different types - they are physically/cosmetically alike, until i saw
the "rib" in some of them:

i then realized this rib was part of a pouch built into the sling:

inside the pouch were two items - one is the thin, pliable aluminum
stock, which i assume is a strengthening rib, and another item which
i at first thought might be a radio antenna, but after studying it for
awhile think it might not be. milgreen in color, about 16½" in length,
consists of a hex end about 3/8" in diameter and about 3/4" in length w/
a rubber coating - it is threaded internally and looks like possibly
10-32 or 12-24 (i doubt it's 1/4 x 28, looks too small) which i'll have
to check later today - and a thin wire rolled into a small circle on
the end.

any ideas?
