RU-16 and -18 are for 12 volt airraft and the RU-17 for 24 volt. Ah,
but that's where the fun begins. The RU-16 & -17 both use the 46048A
receiver, and the RU-18 (and -19) use the 46051A receiver which is the
same as used in earlier sets like the GF-5/RU-7. Both of those
receivers have 12 volt heater strings but the 24 volt systems have
dropping resistors in the junction boxes to present the equipment
filaments with 12 volts. The GF-11/RU-16 and GF-12/RU-17 have limited
interchangability with earlier sets while the RU-18 and RU-19 appear
to be unlimited, though I haven't checked with the manuals as closely
as I should.

As a note, the GF-11/RU-16, GF-12/RU-17, RU-18 & RU-19 were made by
Western Electric while A.R.C. made the rest.

Best regards,

Michael
