[Milsurplus] U-229/U O-Rings: The Solution

Here's the outcome of the U-229/U O-ring caper:

I'd ordered a batch of 1/16" x 5/8" ID rings only
to find out they're too fat. 1/16 rings are
nominally 0.070" in cross section.

After my initial post Robert Downs reported that
the National Stock Number for the ring is
5330-00-905-6032.

Another member with access to FedLog reported in a
private email that the description of the part is:

MRC Requirement Statement Clear Text Reply
NAME ITEM NAME O-RING
ADVN CROSS-SECTIONAL HEIGHT 0.055 INCHES MINIMUM AND
0.061 INCHES MAXIMUM
ADYT CENTER HOLE DIAMETER 0.605 INCHES MINIMUM AND
0.615 INCHES MAXIMUM
MATT MATERIAL RUBBER CHLOROPRENE CLASS CR

That translates perfectly into 1.5 mm by 15.5 mm
ID. Chloroprene is generic Neoprene.

I was unable to find these rings in Neoprene, but
McMaster Carr (www.mcmaster.com) had them in plain
old BUNA-N, part number 9262 K636. Cost was
$10.10 for 100 shipped.

These work great. I dunked them in Liquid Wrench
Silicone Spray before installation. The connectors
now go on easily and even suck a vacuum when you
pull them off.

Thanks for the group effort.

Regards,
Al
