I wonder too if the attitude has changed. I suspect so, but only suspect.
It does seem that re-enactors are more interested in gear at least original
if not working. I recall in the not so distant past, airplane owners 
interested
in emptied-out radio boxes and (so-called) reenactors with emptied out
radios that now contained cassette tape players or CB radios.
BTW i have seen some re-enactment photos from Europe of German
encampments where if the photo was not in color, it would seem
impossible to tell that it was not from a WW2 year.
