[Milsurplus] PRC-77 in Afghanistan

Was watching Pentagon Channel, in their reportage on Afghanistan
a report on effort to improve communications between Afghan and
Pakistani militaries in the border region. A quick shot of a PRC-77.
I think it must have belonged to the Paki army, not US, as it was pretty
beat up, paint very chipped up, the way you see them in surplus as "used,
showing lots of use".
Also saw a Humvee with a mast antenna with what looked like a super
duper 160 meter loading coil, at least size-wise; maybe it was actually
some kind of active antenna matching system. I was thinking that out
in those rocky canyonlands you would probably want HF rigs with
NVIS antennas.

I see Pentagon Channel via www.vdc.com which is a subscription
service. I have noticed that when i first go there and select "Pentagon",
it doesn't ask me for my password, so this channel and some others
maybe aren't password guarded? Pentagon channel is (as you'd
expect) pretty upbeat. One thing dd strike me - the value of military
training - even the humblest of low ranking service people most often
are quite well spoken, "together". The channel has intermittently
a program called "Combat Camera", mostly current. But the other
night they were showing some olde training films like "Combat
Report" or something like that. Saw a BC-603 in a T-26 tank.
Also a close to the front lines view of a German tank hit and a crewman,
only one, bailing out before it flamed. The war films made me wonder
what kind of camera they used to get sound with picture - some of the
films had audio which was obviously too well synced to have been
just spliced in. -Hue Miller
