I've drilled a hole using a small drill and a "drill stopper;"
a little round collar you can fasten to the drill bit to 
keep it from going too deep.  If the switch is stuck,
I shoot in a little WD-40 and work it loose.
Then I follow with good contact cleaner.
Done the same thing with big, sealed pots.
Worked every time so far.
