Having just acquired on of these I see from the manual downloaded from the
Ws19 site the 1031 was based on a 460khz if, the 1032 which I have is 5.25Mhz
if.
I'm guessing with such a high if that it was used with a vhf set of some
sort ? but does anyone know which. I can't think of any sets I have here with a
5.25Mhz first if.
Luckily, though there was a great pool of melted wax/oil on the base under
the mains transformer I found that after I changed the ht rectifier and one of
the decouplers which was s/c the set works fine. I'm hoping the cause of the
melt was overheating due to the short circuit.
I had to change one of the pots which centred the trace but otherwise it
seems fine. Obviously I could make a little conversion box up, I think one of
those SLB mixer units, a xtal osc and maybe a tuneable bandpass filter on the
front then a small box with several 'input' frequencies, 455, 10.7, 9Mhz etc
could easily be fitted.
cheers, Ben.
