You should bid on it then, Jim. You wouldn't have a lot of
competition.
I agree, "someone" should probably save one.
Possibly it might have more interest if it was variable
receive, at least; or had a military nameplate. "Boat type
radios" just don't have a very large following yet -
maybe they never will - since they're overwhelmingly
crystal controlled and tend to be pretty big, and don't
have any military cachet. The number
of people who can collect "big" stuff is steadily
decreasing as is the will to collect "big" stuff.
I have a bunch of Northern Radio Co. ( of Seattle )
boat radios, thinking "someone" needs to preserve some
examples, plus i like the PNW connection to where i
used to live, but they are big 'n heavy and you wouldn't
want a gallery of them. I would have picked up the SSB-1
at the hamfest but the seller if the seller had come down
a token few bucks, but the apparent attitude was "there's the
marked price, and we don't want to talk about it, we are
busy with our own discussion" so fine, you don't need
to sell it, i don't need to buy it, everybody's happy. -Hue
