See ER #95, March 1997 for just such a tome.
Another mod to the 342 I would highly recommend is converting the RA-20 PS
circuit to choke input and using SS rectifiers. This reduces cabinet heating
and the load on the 60 year old power xformer. Also lowers the HV to approx.
220vdc which reduces stress on other components without impairing
performance. Replace the old 8-8 mfd filter cap too, of course, and if you want to
maintain original appearances clean out the guts of an old 5W4 and hide the SS
diodes inside.
