I agree!  Finding clever ways to make HV is always fun.   Here's a

 I've wondered about trying to use the guts of the little inverters used 
to run the portable fluorescent lamps to generate B+ for something like 
a BC-611 or Zenith TO.  Anyone tried this?   One quick experiment 
convinced me these little inverters make way too much hash to run 120 V 
radios directly, but using them to make DC sounds intriguing.
