"From Skeet Gifford

A 1951 C-45 attached to the Commemorative Air Force crashed yesterday  
near Denver and was totally destroyed by fire. Both pilots escaped  
the aircraft. The aircraft bore the insignia of 1919-1940, Star-in- 
Circle and alternating stripes on the rudder.

In reporting the accident, a television reporter stated (with a  
straight face) that the CAF was   '...dedicated to preserving vintage  
aircraft.'  "
