I know its contrary to the group opnion but I have to wonder how much of
the QRM is deliberate? From my location in Maryland I have given up on
trying to operate on 3885 and 80 meter AM in general. yes their are a
lot of SSB operators who have no idea what a AM calling frequency is,
and many operators who will tune up and test into their antenna, and
some idiots who intentionally jam because someone on their frequency,
but their is also a lot of AM activity in the subband. Myself I try not
to operate on top of a existing QSO, unless its a adjacent side band
station but their always appears to be someone or some net on 3885 and
often wonder how it is that I can hear these stations with my 1939 HRO
RAS but other stations with modern receivers don't? I have been
operating a lot on 7290 but find that will get fair amount of activity
on weekend afternoons and disappears when the broadcast starts up and
have yet to make one contact up on 14286 but listening to the crowd on
80 have to wonder where all this lack of activity and death of ham radio
is? and have to wonder about the success of any regularly scheduled net
on 3885 As a footnote I regularly use 3885 at hamfest for military radio
nets and more then likely stomp all over any existing traffic but this
is with low power portables and if you cant hear them kinda hope they
cant hear you.
