Re: My last about "mine companies:"
Please replace references to "companies" with "platoons."
They were attached to the anti-tank company,
when one still existed; often their two understrength
squads got pitched into whatever company needed
someone to clear mines ahead of an assault.
Nice job, especially when some REMF decided
to use artillery to clear the minefield 
you were already clearing by hand.
Happened many times.
