It was sort of an interesting fighter at that.  Those radios were in
the fuselage behind the engine which, in turn, was behind the pilot.
Changing specs messed it up for its original design concept but the
Russians figured out a better way to employ it, which was ground
attack and tank busting with the 37mm cannon in the nose.
